ACPI 2.17, ASUS Pundit AH2, AMD X2 3800+; TRAP 000d in SMP

Hi!

I get an TRAP 000d right after the SNAP driver message when eCS 2.0beta3a tries to load the desktop.
This is with the old ACPI driver v2.16!!!

ACPI.PSD parameters tested:
/APIC /SMP
/APIC /SMP /TMR

Kernel is 14.103a_SMP
ASUS Pundit P1-AH2 (Board is a M2N8L-P1-AH2...)
North Bridge: nVidia Crush 51PV
South Bridge: nVidia MCP 51
(the Crush chipset is nForce 4 based)


If I run it only with the /ACPI flag it's working.

EDIT1: added chipset and motherboard info...testing ACPI 2.17 now
EDIT2: fixed parameter and driver name (copy from brain 1.0 was not correct; CONFIG.SYS was correct)

Sorry, messed up driver name and parameter. Fixed it above.

First test with ACPI driver v2.17 doesn't fix my problem.
I verified it's really 2.17!

I get the exact same TRAP dump as with v2.16!
TRAP with /APIC /SMP and no TRAP with /APIC only

EDIT1: Tried SMP Kernel 14.104 which still produces the same TRAP screen!

Any suggestions? Next ACPICA or how it is called?
I may also disable the SNAP driver on the next test round.

Ok, another update...

I tried to boot with /PIC /SMP where I get a little bit further.
Here I get a lockup when PMSHELL begins to load the desktop.
The 'orange' background color is already shown but then there is no more progress (no backup of desktop (XWP), no icons,...). The only thing I seen beside the background is the mouse cursor.

Still ACPI v2.17 and 14.104a_SMP Kernel!
ASUS hasn't released newer BIOS Version for the Pundit AH2 barebones.
The current one is still the first release.

* if using Bootable JFS, and system stops at PMSHELL or at network driver then chkdsk x: /f

I've already done that:
-/SMP /APIC ---> CRASH loading PMSHELL after SNAP screen
Uninstalled SNAP and moved to standard VGA in the meantime ---> CRASH loading PMSHELL

[UPDATE]
Just did another test with /APIC /SMP (without SNAP) and it's working
I was able to boot to the desktop. USB Keyboard is working, but mouse (AMOUSE-USB) is dead.

-Did chkdsk c: /f from CD changed to /PIC /SMP
---> system stops at PMSHELL as described above....


-I can disable UNIAUD and maybe some other drivers but I need USB (for Keyboard and Mouse).

I've not yet used /FS as parameter, maybe this also helps.

thank you for your fast replies.

I did another test with disabled UNIAUD and IBM's NULL NDIS driver.
ACPI.PSD /APIC /SMP /TMR
While it did work without /TMR on the previous boot, with the parameter it doesn't work. PMSHELL lockup. The USB mouse works for about 4 seconds until the lockup takes place.
eCS 2.0 is installed with Bootable JFS.

I've now booted from the CD and run a chkdsk c: /f on drive C!
After that I'll try booting from the harddrive again with /APIC /SMP (so I only remove /TMR).

After that I'll again try SNAP but my registrated copy and not the version shipped with eCS 2.0 Beta3a.

Then I swith to PS/2 devices and also disable USB.
I've already disabled most of the other drivers.

OK, so you can boot.
1) now install SNAP
2) then update USB drivers, if using AMouse then update AMouse - read ACPI-SMP-DRV, pay attention to /CD switch
3) then check Peer, enable networking

Ok, booting again with /APIC /SMP which seems work now (don't know yet if it's because I deinstalled SNAP but currently it looks that way).
I enabled the APM.ADD driver v1.09! It's still working (I've not yet re-installed SNAP).

[Update01]: Installed AMOUSE 2.7.0.9 and it's working
[Update02]: Re-Installed SNAP 3.1.8 (full-version; registrated) and it's still working
It's an onboard nVidia GeForce 61x0 (x= 5 or 0 - not sure) which is only running in VESA VBE 3.0 mode.

The problem with the TRAP when PMSHELL.EXE is loaded is definitely caused by IBMs MOUSE.SYS and USBMOUSE.

If you install AMOUSE you can use /SMP /TMR and it's no longer crashing.

I think you may be right -- especially wrt USBMOUSE.SYS: I have just tried to get eCS 2.0 Beta 4 working in SMP mode on my A8N-E dual-core system and found that the only way to avoid that Trap (or sometimes a frozen desktop instead) is to use the "fixed" version of USBMOUSE.SYS that comes from the AMouse people. I haven't even tried installing AMouse there yet, just the updated USBMOUSE.SYS driver.

Yes my last test was also with eCS 2.0 Beta 4 and with the special "ACPI for Athlon64 X2" option I had a frozen desktop. With the next installation run I only enabled ACPI (my optional '/APIC' parameter got lost or was ignored by the setup).

After everything was installed I tried different settings.
With AMOUSE I was finally able to use "/SMP" on the ACPI.PSD without the 000d TRAP in CPU01.
