Issues with eSchemes 1.46

Postby chennecke » Mon Feb 04, 2008 13:56

Well, I wanted to try the new version 1.46 and this happened:
  • Installation ends with the message that a class could not be
    registered.
  • Research reveals that the package needs three supplemental packages:
    • The dependency is not mentioned anywhere in the WarpIN installation
      instructions.
    • The dependency is not a requirement for being able to install the
WarpIN package as it should be.
  • De-installing eSchemes removes vital parts of the system instead of
restoring them to the previous state.
    • The system is unusable.
    • The installation instructions do not mention any necessary
      precautions.
  • The betazone forum mentioned in the readme does not exist.

Things like this leave a very bad impression with users and they might
not try another version again. Given that the number of potential beta
testers is already restricted to those with access to the beta zone,
that is a Bad Thing (tm). Please add backup instructions if you don't
provide a means of reverting the system to the previous state. Also,
please make sure that people can file a bug report!

OK, there are instructions of the homepage of eSchemes -- http://ecomstation.ru/eschemes

We are working on installation procedure, you are right, the system is damaged if no runtimes or if you try de-install eSchemes.

According class registration failed. Can you send me warpin installation log? You can found it in ecs\install\warpin.

According dependency. This is because runtime package IDs was not established until now. Starting from 1.47 package dependances will pointed in installation script.

According deinstallation. It is not possible to restore system to its original state. Lots of things changes and not known how to save all of them. Also, deinstallation procedure not main goal yet.

I'll fix instructions about forum. Thanks.

Thank you for your comments.

Yuri

What Chenneke wrote is important, that had made me to not further try eschemes till its more freindly to my system. Well, now I couldn't resist and tried 1.46. Especially the issues with deinstallation is disturbing and that estyler is destroyed. Also initially there are some problems that seems to disappear after some reeboots. Summerteam seems to be the theme to begin with, least troubles.

Now I'm using my favourite theme, "bubbles". Everything seems to work well after those initial problems. Please guys, get these schemes to work well, without destoying anything - cause they are really lifting the desktop and certainly make it vivid. Keep on the good work!

Only one comment: eSchemes is replacement and enchancement of eStyler. This is why eStyler destroed during installation. Actually, it is just upgrades eStyler components.

Comments:
------------------------------------------
eSchemes 1.46 and WPS Wizard 6.0+, no eSchemes Deluxe installed.

eSchemes 1.46 and WPS Wizard 6.0+ appear to work great together. All schemes installed just fine. However, adding eSchemes Deluxe breaks this harmony. eSchemes will be loading a scheme and crash at around 25%. With partially enabled schemes, the system starts looking bad.
--------------------------------------------

eSchemes 1.46 and eSchemes Deluxe installed together without WPS Wizard:

The templates folder crashes when large icons are enabled. Large icons did not work until my registratiion key was applied. Until large icons started working due to registration key, the template folder did not crash.

The scheme editor that comes with eSchemes 1.46 does not work. It appears to be missing things necessary to edit schemes.

I tried dragging bitmaps to the scheme editor and the system crashed. The WPS went blue.

I opened the drive folder and went to some control bar bmps buttons I had created and the system crashed. The WPS went blue.
----------------------------------------

Tested Yuri's fix for FM/2 and it works. FM/2 no longer crashes when started.

Titlebar bitmaps:

I have been playing around with creating a sch for eSchemes. I used the bubbles theme sch as a template and have manually been editing the theme. However, when I try to enable a titlebar bitmap and then enable the scheme, there is no titlebar bitmap. I noticed none of the themes I downloaded use titlbar bitmaps, so my question is, is this feature working? Has this been tested?

Hi David!

I don't see this problem. OTOH, I have frequent WPS crashes when opening "light table" folders. Theoretically, light table folders shouldn't be needed anymore when using eSchemes Deluxe, but there are a few software packages that install and use light table folders (e.g. Tame), and since there is no commonly-agreed-upon replacement, it presently makes sense to keep using them. Moreover, the recent drops of eSchemes Deluxe don't work correctly when showing image previews in icons.

Yes, I never use it because it seems largely unfinished. I usually correct/create schemes manually.

I booted up today and I can now access the templates folder with large icons enabled. So scratch this one report. I don't know why it did it initially.

Can anyone tell me if eSchemes 1.46 supports titlebar bitmaps? Try as I might, I have been unable to get it to display a titlebar bitmap.
