eSchemes v1.45

Postby cris » Mon Jan 21, 2008 01:56

Hi Yuri,
thank you for eSchemes v1.45!!
This release is a big step forward both in capabilities and in stability.

As a reward for you, I have gathered a few bugs to report! :-D

1) With this release, static text is clipped in a 99% of the settings notebooks (see screenshot: Image )

2) The "folder contents" submenu of the context menu of the Desktop (ONLY that of the desktop... the other folders don't have this problem) comes up with invisible icons and invisible text (see screenshot: Image )

3) eSchemes now correctly support the system menu button, BUT the one in the Window List (see screenshot: Image )

4) eStyler still crashes. POPUPLOG.OS2 reports:

01-20-2008 21:35:26 SYS3175 PID 004a TID 0001 Slot 0094
G:\ECS\SYSTEM\ESTYLER\ESTYLER.EXE

ES=0053 ESACC=d0f3 ESLIM=5fffffff

SS:ESP=0053:00072810 SSACC=d0f3 SSLIM=5fffffff
EBP=00072830 FLG=00012286

ESTYLER.EXE 0001:00012078

5) The WPS still is a little unstable (but much progress with respect to v1.40). One method that (here) is almost granted to crash the WPS is to open the properties notebook of the desktop, then go through all the pages by using the "+" symbol in the upper-right corner. Usually it will crash when switching to the "background" page.

6) When the WPS crashes it will try to restart, but it stops before showing the desktop, and there's no way out: you have to restart.

Hope this helps!

Thank you!
Bye

Yuri,
now that I am a bit more awake :) I think the clipping is associated with check-boxes and radio-boxes, that were newly implemented in this release. You are probably wrongly calculating the size of the associated text. Maybe you are using the size of the text box as a _total_ size, including the control (the radio/check-box) itself.

Hope this helps

Hi Cris, seems we two are the only ones brave enough to play with eSchemes :-)
My comments on your post:

1) same here, but worst with the resolution I use (1680x1050).
2) I still have not installed full XWP, so I can't comment
3) confirmed
4) how do you activate the eStyler error?
5) I tried a couple of times your suggestion, but WPS did not crash ( :-)
I have *big* problems when I apply new themes, but nothing else I did crashed the WPS since I reinstalled everything, yesterday :-)

Currently I have here eWP, eSchemes, Sunny Icons and Launchpad. I think I'll wait a couple of days before installing PCM and Imagination.

I add also my thanks to the developers and bye!

Most probably fixed. At least I don't found any clipped text. Check 1.46 release.

Sorry, can't check this because no XWP here. I'll install XWP and will test it as soon as possible.

Can't find problem yet. Also same problem in Odin-based applications and some Mozilla windows.

ESTYLER.EXE 0001:00012078

Updated estyler.exe in betazone. Doesn't allow to execute preference dialog if eSchemes installed (to provent settings corruptions), but works fine without eSchemes.

Same with shutdown.exe.

Not reproducable on my system with 1.46. Please check and if problem still here inform me.

Hi All,

I had a chance to try eSchemes 1.46 with the new eStyler.exe. It installed with no problem at all - except after install there were no title bar buttons. Applying the eComStation scheme restored them, but now the title bar gradient I had was reset to solid color. Can't figure out how to restore it... the scheme editor does not seem to have this function.

I also see some clipped fonts in static text, but only about 20% of the time (see
Image)

I have no problem with 'folder contents' submenus anywhere, and I do use XWP. Also, eStyler now will not start at all, giving a message that it is disabled (so now no titlebar gradients?) I haven't been able to make it crash yet...

So far stability seems very good... the best eSchemes yet in that regard. My biggest issue is with the scheme editor.. it does not display the scheme and seems garbled with overlapping and/or missing items. (see Image)

I also see there is a help file, but hitting F1 or clicking on 'Help' in the scheme folder does not bring it up.

Thanks for your continued work with eSchemes!

One other thing I just noticed... FM/2 crashes with the following POPUPLOG when eSchemes is installed:

Yes, fixed with 1.46

Fixed this one, too! Thanx!

prokushev wrote:Can't find problem yet. Also same problem in Odin-based applications and some Mozilla windows.

This bug is still here, although with 1.46 it is a little better: if I click the system-menu button in the window-list, it becomes correct. But if I hide and the window-list and then show it again, the wrong button is there again.

prokushev wrote:Updated estyler.exe in betazone. Doesn't allow to execute preference dialog if eSchemes installed (to provent settings corruptions), but works fine without eSchemes.

Same with shutdown.exe.

Fixed both, thanx!

I'm very happy with this release! It is very stable, and almost everything is implemented now. Great!

Hi Dave,

I have the same problem with FM and estyler, and I also have a problem with dialog windows containing list, like the "Install new printer driver" window: driver names are not visible (see image:
http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=installnewprinterdriveruc2.jpg).

This is with version 1.46, and until now I have not been able to find other bugs :-)

Gabriele,

Hmm... I don't have the dialog list problem you show, but I am using the standard eComStation scheme. Maybe you could try changing to that and see if your lists show again?

I am curious... do you see the corruption I show on the eScheme editor page? I am starting to think there is a conflict with some other WPS extender I use...

Have not tried with FM/2, but eStyler now "works" (after upgrading estyler.exe and shutdown.exe with the ones on the BetaZone).

The problem you have with dialogs containing lists seems the same I am experiencing with templates and shadows when seen in "split view" mode (will post a screenshot later).

However, I believe the problem is in how the scheme "eCO Toys" defines the usage of colors, not in eSchemes itself. I also have problems because the color for the titles of shadows is defined as white, which makes the titles invisible when used on a white background (90% of folders). Another problem is with the text-box control: text color is defines as yellow, but background color is defined as white, which makes it quite unreadable.

If I get some free time I want to upgrade the "eCO Toys" theme (which is otherwise wonderful) by correcting a few color defaults.

I just applied eComStation scheme and then rebooted, just to be safe, but I'm still unable to see item lists.

Yes, I see the corruption too. Here I have installed eWP, Sunny Icons and Pianopad. And this one is a 1 week old installation, so I should not have problems with INI files...

I tried other themes, including eComstation theme, and I always had the problem. Does not happen on your system?
BTW, I like eCo Toys too!

By the way, in the meantime I solved the problem with FM (that happened also with XWlan profiles) renaming estlr11.dll.

Well, seems we will need to add exception list for bad design applications (I mean which uses some sort of hard-coded colors and so on). But not in current development releases.

The exception list existed, in fact, in Styler.
Alessandro Cantatore, if I'm not wrong, has released as open source all his projects, so it should be possible to have full Styler sources, I think.

Well. eStyler Lite was significaly rewritten in some parts and many things was added. Also I trying don't use exceptions lists at all. For example I reworked button classes to be more friendly to other apps. As result FM/2 and some other applications now works as expected.

I prefer to improve window procedures of PM classes instead of workarounds of my, Alessandro or IBM bugs.

Re: eSchemes v1.47

Postby David McKenna » Mon Apr 07, 2008 21:26

I just installed eSchemes 1.47 and it looks very good! The editor displays properly now, and FM/2 does not crash. Also, title bar buttons do not disappear after install (but before applying a scheme) - great!. I still get a little bit of font clipping as I showed before, but it is great to see eSchemes continue to improve. Thanks!
