ACPI 2.21 problem

Postby Alan Beagley » Sun May 06, 2007 21:11

My Dual-core AMD system (Asus A8N-E motherboard -- nVidia chipset) worked fine with ACPI 2.20 and eCS 2.0 beta 4. Video card is ATI X300 (PCI-Express). Hard disks are SCSI attached to Adaptec AHA-29160. IRQs 3,5 and 7 are Reserved in the mobo BIOS.

With ACPI 2.21, everything is fine until it's time to load the SNAP driver, at which time the machine simply hangs with no error message but with the disk access light permanently on.

Are there some different switches I should try? At present I have:

PSD=ACPI.PSD /SMP /TMR /R /APIC /!NOD

Please upgrade to kernel 104. I uploaded UNI and SMP 14.104 to betazone -> ACPI project, available for all

Alan, are you using /!NOD for SCSI? Because I have your same chipset and as I have reboot problem (with or without /R) since version 2.18, if I'm not wrong, I'm experimenting different parameters.
By the way, I'm still at 2.18 because 2.19 and 2.20 gave me WPS hangs and I've not tried 2.21 after your message :-)

Bye
Gabriele

Still no change: it still hangs before loading the video driver.

BTW, I still have the USBMOUSE.SYS file from AMouse installed rather than the original one. That's what it took to get the machine to run with ACPI 2.18, and in any case I will want to use AMouse.

I'm using /!NOD because I was told to. I don't know whether it has anything to do with SCSI.

ACPI 2.20 worked for me, but I left the machine running that way only for an hour or two and not doing anything. No crashes or error messages. I just wanted to check whether 2.10 worked, then I went back to my regular 1.2R configuration on the same machine.

Hi Alan,

I was curious to try /!NOD, but I was afraid of this:

/!NOD - disable internal OEMHLP$ driver.
Don't forget activate acpica.add (read troubleshooting.doc)

Are you loading also acpica.add?

Bye and thank you

Gabriele:

I was not uising acpica.add because I wasn't told to at the time. I have now tried it with acpica.add, but the result is the same: sound drivers load, but there is no sign of the video driver loading, and the machine "just sits there" with the disk access light on.
