ACPI 2.20

Postby cris » Tue May 01, 2007 11:53

Hi,
I have changed my motherboard: I now have an ASRock AM2NF6G-VSTA (nVidia chipset), with an AMD Sempron 3200+.
I have downloaded and installed ACPI 2.20, but it seems it is not loaded.
I followed the instructions and thus I didn't install the snooper.

When the system boots I see the banners without errors, but then if I try to use any of the utilities, they terminate with an error saying that the ACPI api is not available.

APM.ADD reports errors too. Here is the logfile:

30 Apr 23:05:55 AcpiDaemon End read G:\MPTN\ETC\AcpiD.cfg

30 Apr 23:05:55 AcpiDaemon Build date: Apr 26 2007 14:00:02 is started

30 Apr 23:05:55 AcpiDaemon Detect ACPI.PSD Version: 0.0 ACPICA.ADD Version: 0.0 ACPI32.DLL Version: 0.0 .IRQ0 used

30 Apr 23:05:55 AcpiDaemon Start addr PSD:0 Start Adr driver:0

30 Apr 23:05:55 AcpiDaemon Error start acpi rc=65367 0xff57

Here are the relevant parts of my config.sys:

(...)
REM [1] Device Driver Statements

BASEDEV=ACPICA.ADD

PSD=ACPI.PSD
(...)
rem RUN=G:\OS2\APMDAEMN.EXE

RUN=G:\OS2\ACPIDAEMON.EXE
(...)
rem DEVICE=G:\Programs\APMTools\VIAAPM.SYS /VERBOSE /THROT:F

rem DEVICE=G:\Programs\APMTools\APM_NH.SYS

rem DEVICE=G:\OS2\BOOT\APM.SYS

rem DEVICE=G:\OS2\MDOS\VAPM.SYS
(...)
BASEDEV=APM.ADD

Why isn't ACPI correctly loading? What sould I do?

I also have random 000D traps, but I don't know if it is due to ACPI.
I am also using Panorama VESA driver 20070427.

Thankyou for any help
Bye
Cris

Hello Chris,

please remove ACPICA.ADD from config.sys and try again.
See manual :

If you are going run computer in APIC mode then
* install snooper (if using Intel chipset)
* add /NOD switch,
* remove acpica.add

succes[/quote]

Hi geert,
thank you for your reply!
If I understand the documentation correctly, APIC mode is for SMP. But I am on an AMD Sempron, so no SMP (no multicore, no hyperthreads). Hence I think the above paragraph does not apply.

Thankyou

Thank you Eugene!
I'll wait for the next release.
In the meantime, may I revert to 2.19? Or does it contain the same bug?

Bye

Hi Eugene,
unfortunately with 2.19 I have the very same result as with 2.20 :-(
I'll wait for the next release and hope it'll work.

Hi,
just a quick reply to let you know that v2.21 does its work correctly.
I still have to test it thoroughly, though. These days I am spending most of my PC-time on Linux, because I have no network access from eCS :-(
The network drivers for my nVidia chipset are not availbale (not even through genmac :-( ).
I hope I'll be able to do more tests and send a report soon.

Bye
Cris
