Automated test of ACPI?

Postby jep » Tue May 31, 2011 09:23

Hello,

I've read replies in mail that there's work in progress to develop a tool (or scripts) to aid ACPI testing on different hardware to increase the number of reports and accuracy that the developer can receive.

I had previously begun to look at a simple (yet promising and powerful) way to do that with rexx myself, including a pre boot menu similar to the one you find during boot if you press Alt+F1 as the "boot blob" appear. My script would unzip the acpi .zip-file to the destination folders (and backup the previous drivers), write a new config.sys to include a minimum of drivers, write a configuration menu and let the user reboot the computer to the text menu. The intention was then to allow the user to either allow the boot process to continue or skip one or more small steps to advance faster. With each successful boot it would write acpi logs and rewrite a new config.sys etc. to add one or more drivers and get closer to a full boot to GUI and eventually (if possible) full blown log and working system.

How far have your tool progressed and can you please put it out in the public for testing soon?

If not, then I will have to take up the work on my script again.

Something like this?! Write ALTF1TOP.EN to ALTF1TOP.SCR for each boot with altered selection
Each special character should be replaced by an arrow or space depending on how far the test has progressed.

(View with a monospaced font or cut and paste into a text editor such as e.exe)

The ACPI test procedure is now in progress and the arrows below show
what combination of options that will be tested next.
